The Hard Truth About Your Dreams
As I write this, I'm thinking about my own dreams and how I can make them a reality. A lot of people want to make their dreams a reality as well, but why are some people successful at it while others aren't? The answer is pretty simple yet sometimes hard to swallow. Before we get to that hard truth, let's review some steps that need to happen before that hard truth comes into play.
This is where you shoot for the stars. Anything you want to do in life, you can do it. Accomplishing a life long dream or goal can have such an impact on your life. It can let you know that if you set your mind to it, you can do anything. It can also prove to yourself you have what it takes.
Knowing What You Want
Believe it or not, actually knowing your dreams in life is pretty rare. It doesn't have to be specific at all. It can just be an idea. Something to aim for. Maybe it's just a general subject or field that you are drawn to and like.
The way I look at it is that you have 180 degrees to play with on your journey. You can experiment, change your mind, sidetrack a bit, but you'll always be heading in the right direction. Some people take the most direct way to get there. Others take the more scenic route. Once you know what you want, you can continue on the path of getting it. Which leads us to the next thing we need.
A Burning Desire
You know what you want, but how bad do you want it? That can make or break your chances of success dramatically. Are you willing to make sacrifices to make your dream become a reality?
Depending on the intensity of your desire, you'll continue to do whatever it takes to get you there. You'll make time to gain the skills or knowledge, instead of making excuses. When you are relentless on accomplishing your dream, you'll continue to adjust your angle on how you get there, which leads us to plans.
Your Plans To Get There
Up until now, everything has been in your head. Your dreams, your desires and maybe even some plans to get there. To truly move forward with your dreams, you must create a plan and write it down. Be specific as possible with every little detail on how you can get it. Also think about backup plans and write those down as well.
Writing these plans and dreams down solidifies your dream from your mind into the physical world. It lets the physical world know you are serious about it. Once you have this done, that leads us to the hard truth.
The Hard Truth
Taking action. If we don't take any action on any of these plans, then that's all they'll ever be, dreams. Part of your plan should introduce small actionable steps to start out. Taking that first step is usually the hardest.
There can be emotions of doubt that can hinder your efforts. Once action is taken, even the smallest, can dramatically transform your thoughts. From: I don't know if I should do this, to: this is actually pretty easy. Once you start taking more action, your plans may change. It's perfectly fine to make adjustments to your plans. You find out from the action you are taking either solidifies your plans or not. That's the cool thing about plans, they can be changed.
That burning desire will help you not quit when you have to try something different from your plans. You might even find out that the dream you had, might not be what you want after all. At least you know. Taking action can help you never have regret about things you wanted to accomplish.
Dream big. Explore out there and find out what you like. Once you figure that out, go all in and take action on your dreams and never quit. Winners never quit, and quitters never win.
If you know someone that could hear this, please share it with them. We could all use a reminder from time to time.
